The Materials and Process Engineer defines, controls and performs analysis of materials and processes to assure compatibility of materials and processes with design and application in accordance with customer specification, airworthiness compliance and environmental regulation; Recommends corrective action, rework/repair procedure and disposition based on analysis of material data, test results, process review and/or failure evaluation. The Materials and Process Engineer coordinates with and reports to Design Compliance Manager/ Materials & Process Manager for all function stated herein.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares and controls Monogram Material Specification, Process Specification, Materials and Process Summary, Material Characterization, Fire Property Test Plan and Report, Corrosion Control Prevention and other Engineering document relevant to materials and process activity.
Responsible for and conducts verification and validation testing, as required, of new or modified material and process prior to design approval and qualification testing.
Specifies, reviews and approves material description, process call-out and specification on engineering drawings and documents
Recommends testing methodologies to the development engineering team and supports project engineers, system engineer and certification manager in test procedure and report generation and update.
Supports engineering and certification team in resolving material and process quality problems, purchasing issues, customer requests, customer contract requirements, technical support, sales requests, safety and environmental compliance.
Identify design deficiencies and opportunities for improvement based on analysis, test observation and test results.
Contributes to continuous improvement of the part or assembly.
Documents and reports all test results and analysis to the M&P Manager.
Ensures testing activities are conducted in a safe manner.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment.

To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:
Maintains good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks from internal activity as assigned by Design Compliance / Materials & Process Manager.
Requires strong aptitude in chemical and metallurgical disciplines and be able to interpret test results, applicable standards and specifications; Must be able to identify chemical elements, compounds and interpret at the least, basic chemical reactions.
Must be able to prepare a test set-up to achieve accurate and reliable results for material validation, part failure evaluation or root cause analysis.
Must have working knowledge of the reasonable use and care of standard laboratory equipment, handling and preparation of chemicals, understanding of test method and laboratory procedures
Must have foundation in one or more disciplines such as electrical, thermal, mechanical, and structural; Must be able to read and interpret blueprint requirements
Must be creative in selecting and using a variety of test equipment/tools, fixtures and methods for operation or application, hardware, multimeters, programmable power supplies, pressure gauge and transducers.
Must have ability to create material and process specification, instruction, failure evaluation and test report.
Specific understanding of Military, Government, Industry, OEM specifications and standards, EPA, SCAQMD, OSHA and other environmental regulations (international and domestic), applicable FAA-FAR Part 25 and other Airworthiness standards. Must be familiar with aerospace design and manufacturing processes.
Good problem solving skills based on solid technical reasoning.
Possess a keen attention to detail. Strong work ethic with commitment to excellence of work quality.
Fluent in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point

Education and/or Experience -
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or Material Science from a recognized institution
Desired minimum of 2 years of engineering experience in aerospace, marine, automotive, metal, composite or plastic industry
Physical Demands – While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to move around the office; may occasionally go to production floor or test area, as needed.
Work Environment – The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
Travel – Periodic travel is minimal and may be 3-5 days per quarter.
