Job Description

Saran Data Systems, Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support our growth roadmap to establish standalone engineering capabilities in the US. With reach back to our parent company, this position will take on a robust catalogue of responsibilities, from product design/development, product delivery to post-delivery customer support. This unique opportunity provides the ability to dive into multiple areas while laying the foundation to build a US development team.

Duties include: antenna design, generation/modification of schematics, BOMs and drawings; part sourcing; and executing development processes to meet US customer requirements. The position requires working with cross-functional teams (sales, manufacturing, programs, customers, etc.) to meet design requirements, troubleshoot issues, and validate products for customer release.

Essential Job Functions:

Generate and modify drawings, BOMs and manufacturing instructions for LEO antenna products ranging from 1.8M to 13M.

Provide design solutions to retrofit existing antennas with upgraded features.

Ensure product and design solutions meet customer specifications.

Modify existing COTS designs to meet US customer specifications.

Collaborate with stakeholders and cross functional agencies to support develop and design activities.

Participate in/lead design reviews/PDRs/CDRs and other technical discussions.

Understand customer use cases and explain how product solutions can meet or exceed customer requirements.

Identify deficiencies in mechanical processes and develop improvements.

Design and develop prototypes.

Analyze and test prototypes and each revision of a device.

Supervise the development of computer-aided design (CAD) project drawings from junior team members.

Develop, initiate and manage all phases of projects.

Prepare documentation of critical analysis and provide suggestions for correcting errors.

Collaborate with Project Managers for proper allocation and tracking of resources.

Collaborate with engineers in France to resolve issues as part of the development process.

Support various duties related to RFIs, RFQs, and RFPs responses.

Comply with SDS Inc. and Safran Group Aerospace procedures and policies.

Comply with applicable SDS Inc. Security requirements.

Job Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering required.

Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.

5-7 years' testing and instrumentation experience, mechanical design experience at a minimum.

Knowledge of mechanical design tools and previous antenna design experience is required.

Familiarity of SW and EE design, and how they integrate into mechanical requirements is a plus.

Demonstrated knowledge in system architecture, drawings, BOMs and materials (in particular, metals).

Demonstrated knowledge and experience in telemetry, instrumentation, and systems engineering is a plus.

Knowledge and understanding of Flight Test Operations is a plus.

Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks.

Knowledge or understanding of antenna operation is a plus (i.e. understanding of G/T, EIRP, use of spectrum analyzer, etc.).

Demonstrated experience trouble shooting.

Experience with Safran products is a plus.

Strong interpersonal, organizational and communications (written and oral) skills.

Ability to analyze and develop innovative solutions to complex problems and communicate effectively at all levels of the company.

Must be a team player, able to share knowledge, learn from others, support other teams within the organization.

Specificity of the job

Up to 25% travel, including domestic and international.
