Job Description

Job Location: Twinsburg, Ohio

The Stress Analyst I is responsible for the support of structural, vibration and rotor dynamics analysis, test, and technical support of the AC and DC air-cooled and oil-cooled generators and generator control units within the engineering department. This includes all phases of the project including but not limited to proposals, development, testing and production support.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

•Supports mechanical integrity analysis and rotor dynamics analysis for electric generators and generator control units for new product development and production support.

•Supports preparation, performs, and participates in technical reviews (design, manufacturing, and test, etc.).

•Reviews and understands customer specifications with respect to mechanical, vibration and shock requirements.

•Writes stress analysis reports in support of product qualification.

•Supports design engineers in selection of materials and structures.

•Initiates actions to solve problems for ongoing products or for new product designs and propose potential solutions to alleviate stress concerns

•Prepares and provides assistance for vibration and shock testing of new and legacy products, including test plans and test reports

•Studies the data gathered during testing and evaluates the validity of the results with respect to prior stress analysis.

•Supports the investigation and troubleshooting of test failures related to mechanical constraints.

•Adheres to safe work practices and contributes to the evolution of the health, safety, and environmental program and culture

•Regular, predictable attendance is required

•Other duties may be assigned as necessary

•Evening/night/ Extra hours may be required during business peaks.

Physical Demands

•While performing the duties of the position, this role will be regularly required to stand, walk sit, lift, use hands and fingers, handle and feel, reach with hands and arms and observe with naked eye or via various instruments.

•This role will occasionally be required to lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds.

Work Environment

•The work environment is mainly in office but depending on the phase of the project could be split between office and testing or production floor areas. The environment in some areas may requires wearing PPE or other equipment.

Job Requirements

Education and/or Experience:

•Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

•A minimum one to two (2) years' experience (desirable) in product development, rotating equipment and/or aerospace preferred

•In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, an Associate's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent along with three (3) years' experience (desirable) in stress analysis, rotating equipment and/or aerospace preferred

•Experience in mechanical integrity, design principles, interpreting blueprints, drawings including GD&T and process documents

•Must be legally authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. person within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. “Green Card Holder”), Political Asylee or Refugee.

Knowledge/Skills:

•Good understanding of design, manufacturing, and test processes and constraints inherent to the aerospace industry

•Knowledgeable in system modeling and simulation, design principles, interpreting blueprints, drawings including GD&T and process documents

•Demonstrated problem solving skills

•Understanding of design, manufacturing, and test processes and constraints inherent to the aerospace industry

•Proficient in MS Office

•Experience in analytical stress analysis methods preferred

•Experience in material fatigue analysis (stress-life, strain-life, & crack growth methods)

•Experience in linear and non-linear Finite Element Analysis (Preferred ANSYS)

•Knowledge of material strength, fatigue, and corrosion properties (emphasis on metallic and polymer)

•Experience with SolidWorks or CATIA V5

•Ability to interpret complex information and convey a simplified message to team members of varying technical expertise

•Strong desire to learn and take on responsibilities that may fall outside of normal job scope

•Strong written and verbal communication skills

Specificity of the job

•Travel requirements: Occasionally be required to travel, both domestically in the United States and internationally less than 15%.
